Great Sports Games from the Past

Recently I found some truly great football, hockey and basketball games online in Youtube and I would like to share links to these games with you.  All are from favorite teams that I follow including the Miami Dolphins, New England Whalers (World Hockey Assocation team before merging with the National Hockey League and becoming the Hartford Whalers) and New York Knickerbockers.  I hope you will enjoy these as much as I have since watching these games when they first aired decades ago.

The Whalers vs. the Red Army team from the Soviet Union in December 1976 at the Hartford Civic Center.  Link. The entire game on HBO.

The Christmas Day 1971 Divisional Playoff between the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs at Municipal Stadium in KC.  Historic game and the longest game ever played in the NFL.  Link. Game highlites from NFL Films.

The AFC Championship game from January 1972 between the Miami Dolphins and Baltimore Colts at the Orange Bowl.  High lites from the most important victory in Dolphins history to that point which put them into the Super Bowl.  Link  Game footage merged with radio play by play from the Miami Dolphins radio network.

Super Bowl 7.  January 1973.  Miami Dolphins vs. Washington Redskins.  The culmination of the only Perfect Season in NFL history. Link. NBC TV.

The Pittsburgh Steelers vs. the Miami Dolphins at the Orange Bowl from December 3, 1973.  Regular season game with a thrilling finish.  Dolphins All Pro Safety Dick Anderson had a record setting game and was the Steelers leading receiver  in this game.  Link to the first half.  Audio is garbled.   Link to the second half.  ABC Monday Night Football.

The AFC Championship game from January 1974 between the Miami Dolphins and Oakland Raiders.  The Dolphins ground game literally ground up the top rated run defense in the league in this game.  Link. Please note the audio feed from CBS TV is garbled. 

Super Bowl 8.  January 1974.  Miami Dolphins vs. Minnesota Vikings.  Link for the first half.   Link for the second half.  Please note the CBS TV audio feed is not listenable and garbled.  And the video is marginal for viewing.  

NBA Championship Game 7 from the 1969-1970 Season between the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers in New York City.  Knicks Hall of Fame Center Willis Reed, played with a sprained ankle.  Link. ABC TV.
